Augmented State Project
In recent years, there is growing interest in consciousness. Research pertaining to psychedelics is advancing; an altered state of consciousness leads to mental stability and it has become possible to approach consciousness and such experiences through simulations using AI intelligence. Just as in the past when the aim was to achieve a different sense and experience in video and VR, we will explore methods and forms of expression to lead consciousness and experiences into a different realm using current technologies. Additionally, through the operation of NxPC.Lab, we will also develop it as a place of practice.

By examining scientific, cultural and expressionary aspects, as well as the historical context of altered states of consciousness and psychedelics, we can better understand the current situation and explore possibilities for future development. Whilst deepening a correct understanding concerning altered states of consciousness, including the acquisition of cognitive science knowledge, and actual experiences; evaluations will be conducted as thought experiments, prototypes, and experiences. We anticipate that making a clear evaluation through experiments in relation to these sorts of experiences will be difficult. But by using cross reality, all sorts of sensors such as EEGs in attempts to acquire the situation, random number generators, etc., we will also explore a variety of measurement methods. Through the presentation of expressions, art, experiences, and tangible methods that expand consciousness, we will investigate the results of our experiments using exhibitions, and academic conference presentations. NxPC.Lab which will be implemented as a subproject, will be effectively used as a place for experimentation and the presentation of these results. These results will be presented as the occasion demands at conferences appropriate to the research content of the Information Processing Society of Japan Entertainment Computing, Interaction, VR, and Image Arts and Sciences Society. Additionally, the results will be entered into various competitions as artworks.
